Snoring remedies come in many different packages and
range from the complex (surgery) to the more mundane
(breathing exercises). Reading through the Internet for
solution can become frustrating, not to mention
overwhelming. With so many claims and cures, how do you
know which remedy might be best for you?
Easy Snoring Remedies
You can basically divide remedies for snoring into three
sub-groups. These groups are folk remedies, commercial
remedies, and surgical remedies. Home and folk snoring
remedies focus on relieving nasal blockages using postural
or herbal solutions.
Place a few drops of mint or eucalyptus oil in a
vaporizer along with water. Inhale the steam this produces
for 5 - 15 minutes before bedtime. This remedy helps reduce
nasal congestion
In recent years, herbal remedies have been thrown to the
forefront of pop culture. This is good because people are
now making their health a priority. However, there have
been some unrealistic claims in regards to herbal and folk
medicine. Myself and many others have been witness to the
effectiveness of herbal and folk medicine, but note herbal
remedies may take several hours or days to truly be
effective.
Change up your sleeping position
Most snoring actually occurs in the throat at first.
During sleep, the jaw slackens and the tongue, uvula, and
tonsils may rub against one another. The rubbing produces a
vibration, which we hear as snoring. This problem is made
worse by sleeping on your back. So switch up your sleeping
position, and try to sleep on your side. It may take a
while to readjust.
If you find yourself still sleeping on your back, you
can either sew a tennis ball into your shirt or pajamas
(this is an old folk remedy that may sound strange, but is
still effective today) or try raising your bed a few
inches. To do this, simply place a thick phone book or
rolled up quilt under the head of your mattress.
